Laurie Nickerson is the co-owner of Puppet Pelts, an e-commerce shop that sells textiles and supplies for making puppets. Puppet Pelts opened online in 2013 with a small selection of hand-dyed Antron Fleece and has expanded to a wider range of textiles including Polyester Fleece and Faux Fur. Today, Puppet Pelts carries a wide variety of products for puppet making including reticulated foam, eyes, arm rods, felt and Ultrasuede. Laurie tumbled into puppet building by accident when she wanted to learn a new craft. Puppets seemed fun! Her favorite part of the building process was dyeing the fleece. Needing an exit strategy from her day job as an Art Director at an advertising agency (who wants to sit at a desk all day?) she launched Puppet Pelts as a side gig dyeing fleece and selling on Etsy. It grew over the years and now Puppet Pelts ships textiles and supplies globally to puppet builders all over the world. She quit the “day job” back in 2018 and it has been full steam ahead ever since. When she is not up to her eyeballs in… well… eyeballs, she enjoys paper crafts and book arts, community theater and singing in a local choir.
