Founded in 2005, Ombres Folles creates shows to defend a world driven by imagination and to awake the inventive mind of young and old alike. Committed to the development of contemporary puppet art, the company explores the playfulness aspect of objects and shadows, while questioning our fears and taboos.
Ombres Folles goals are:
* To create non-didactic performances that turn away from right-thinking fairy tales.
* To join disadvantaged audiences with intimate shows.
* To promote the reuse of materials through inventive performances.
Ombres Folles has created 7 shows and played over 300 performances in several venues in Canada, France, Serbia and Ukraine. Created in 2012, Les Routes ignorées/ Off the Beaten Path received several prizes: Audience Choice Award of the Maison de la Culture de Trois-Rivières (QC), Prize for research in the field of shadowand paper puppetry and Prize for acting skills -Jérémie Desbiens -at the 23rd International Festival of Children’s Theatre, Subotica (Serbia); Prize for the art of dialogue at diverse spectator’s levels at the Puppet UP! International Festival of Puppetry, in Kiev (Ukraine). In 2016-17, the project Quichotte/ Quijotewas chosen by La Maison Théâtre (Montreal, QC) for their one-year artistic residency La Chambre d’amis, which aims to support emerging theatre for young audience. In 2019, Ombres Folles premiered its new show, Celle qui marche loin(coproduction with the French company Roi Zizo) at Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay (FIAMS, QC) and Festival mondial des théâtres de marionnettes of Charleville-Mézières (France).
OmbresFolles is a member of Maison Théâtre, Association québécoise des marionnettistes, UNIMA, Association des compagnies de théâtres and Conseil québécois du théâtre.
